Rowing is a sport that uses bodyweight subdivisions (Lightweight and Heavyweight) for the senior and master categories. However, the Juniors category is subdivided into the Junior-B (up to 17 years of age) and Junior-A (18 years of age) categories without considering the bodyweight division. In the Juniors category, athletes are subject to the biological maturation (BM) phenomenon. Athletes with early BM tend to point out higher lean mass and body weight, which in comparison to their peers with late BM can favor the performance of strength and muscle power and consequently the rowing performance. Thus, it is important to consider body weight subdivisions for Juniors rowers.
