资源简介:
Knowledge about connectivity between populations is essential for the fisheries management of commercial species. The lobster Jasus frontalis inhabits two oceanic island groups, the Juan Fernández Archipelago and the Desventuradas Islands, separated by 800 km. Since this species is primarily exploited in the Juan Fernández, the knowledge of the connectivity patterns amongst islands is foundational for species managements. Here we used the variability of SNPs and biophysical modeling to estimate the population genetic structure and connectivity between these islands. Variability of 12,588 SNPs suggest the presence of two populations, one located in Juan Fernández Archipelago and the second in Desventuradas Islands. In contrast, the individual-based modeling (IBM) suggests an asymmetric pattern of connectivity from Juan Fernández to Desventuradas. This disparity in the results suggests a mechanism of larval retention, thereby hindering larval migration between these islands. This study highlights the importance of using more than one methodology to estimate population connectivity.
