In the present study, the soil health dataset consisting of 2670 samples was built with the main goal of understanding the SOC:clay ratio in the North American context. The soil samples were collected in Ontario, Canada from 2019 to 2023 and in New York, USA from 2014 to 2021. Hence, the study objectives were to (a) test the applicability of the SOC:clay ratio as a useful soil carbon status indicator across various pedo-climatic (soil textural classes, soil types, and climatic conditions) and agronomic (production systems) environments, and (b) test an alternative indicator, clay normalized SOC level (SOC: SOCexp,Poeplau and Don, 2023), to assess soil degradation thresholds.
