The story of Cupid (also called Amor or Eros) and Psyche was written in the 2nd century AD by Platonicus. This relief shows a moment when Psyche, not having yet seen her mysterious husband Cupid, goes to kill him and instead finds out that he is the most beautiful creature she ever saw.
