Biometrics is intended to combat identity fraud through a certain identification of the persons to whom visas are issued, whether during border checks, identity checks in the national territory or in the country of origin where the visa has been issued with a return appointment to the consulate after expiry of the validity of the visa. The comparison of fingerprints at different times and locations makes it possible to follow up on certain applicants who have attracted the attention of the services concerned. In 2013, 5 new posts went into biometric mode and biometric visas now represent nearly 2/3 of the visas issued by France. At the end of June 2014, there are still a dozen posts that issue non-biometric visas.生物识别（Biometrics）技术旨在通过对签证申请人开展确定性身份核验，打击身份欺诈行为，适用场景涵盖边境检查、法国境内身份核验，以及签证签发国境内的相关核验——此类场景下，申请人需在签证有效期届满后返回签发该签证的领事馆接受核验。通过在不同时间、不同地点比对指纹，相关主管部门可对引发关注的部分申请人进行追踪核查。 2013年，5个新增签证办理点启用生物识别核验模式；目前法国签发的签证中，近三分之二为生物识别签证。截至2014年6月底，仍有十余个签证办理点签发非生物识别签证。
