Exploring the molecular mechanisms associated with bumble bee foraging behavioral states.

This study explores the potential molecular underpinnings of behavioral states in the bumblebee Bombus bifarius, specifically focusing on legitimate foraging and nectar robbing. By leveraging RNA sequencing, we examined brain gene expression profiles in worker bees exhibiting consistent foraging tactics - either legitimate foraging or nectar robbing - as well as those that alternated between these strategies during foraging bouts. This research aims to determine whether distinct molecular signatures in the brain correspond to these behavioral tactics.
