Glandular trichomes of tomatoes are chemical factories and produce a myriad of structurally diverse specialized metabolites, such as terpenoids and acylsugars, to deter herbivores. Compared with cultivated tomatoes, the wild tomato Solanum pennellii generates more abundant trichome metabolites with higher structural diversity. In order to filter candidate genes that are involved in producing metabolites in wild tomato trichomes, we perform transcriptome analysis of Solanum pennellii tissues. The stem trichomes (ST) and shaved stems (SS) were collected for RNA extraction and RNA-seq analysis.
