The genome sequence assembly of the penicillin producer Penicillium chrysogenum Wisconsin 54-1255 (ATCC 28089) was improved to chromosomal resolution. All four chromosomes and the mitochondrial genome were assembled. As the sexual lifecycle of P. chrysogenum was described recently, the assembly provides an innovation for the application of classical genetic techniques.
