The Vidua chalybeata is a songbird found throughout Africa. Male V. chalybeata display up to 24 songs, mostly mimicking the Red-billed Firefinch or Brown Firefinch, depending on the region. The V. chalybeata genome was originally sequenced and assembled in 2020 for the Birds 10000 Genomes (B10K) project using Illumina and PacBio sequencing (GCA_013398495.1). The bVidCha1 is resequenced and assembled from the same sample, as part of the VGP at a higher assembly quality; this is the primary haplotype. This genome is sponsored by Christopher N.
