Replication dataset: Institutions, Political Regimes, and Economic Growth in Sub-Saharan Africa

This dataset accompanies the study “When Do Institutions Matter? Political Regimes, Income Levels, and Economic Growth in Sub-Saharan Africa.”

It contains panel data for Sub-Saharan African countries, including measures of economic growth, institutional quality, political regimes, and key macroeconomic controls. Institutional quality is constructed using the World Bank’s Worldwide Governance Indicators, while democratic institutions are proxied by the Liberal Democracy Index from V-Dem.

The dataset also includes control variables such as trade openness, human capital, fertility rates, and investment. All variables are cleaned and structured for econometric analysis and replication purposes.
