They have historically been captured by Spatial Services as part of the NSW digital topographic mapping program and therefore warrant inclusion.  The Features of Interest theme also defines the location of facilities such as Police Stations, Ambulance Stations and Hospitals which is crucial information for the citizens of NSW. The Features of Interest Category is primarily used for planning, developmental activities, navigation and resource monitoring by emergency services, the Defence Forces, environmental resource managers and engineers. This dataset was captured by digitising the best available cadastral mapping at a variety of scales and accuracies, ranging from 1:500 to 1:250 000 according to the National Mapping Council of Australia, Standards of Map Accuracy (1975). Therefore, the position of the feature instance will be within 0.5mm at map scale for 90% of the well-defined points. 本数据集包含的要素主要源自人文（人工建造）特征，但通常不包含交通相关要素。此类要素无法归入十大基础空间数据主题，因此单独划分为一个独立类别。该类数据此前由新南威尔士州空间服务部门作为新南威尔士州数字地形测绘项目的组成部分采集，因此具备收录价值。
本感兴趣要素主题还涵盖了警察局、救护站及医院等公共设施的位置信息，对新南威尔士州民众而言是至关重要的民生数据。
本感兴趣要素类别主要用于规划编制、开发活动、导航保障以及应急服务、国防部队、环境资源管理者和工程师的资源监测工作。此外，丛林徒步者、皮划艇爱好者、垂钓者及地质勘探爱好者也常使用该数据以详细掌握当地环境状况。此类要素的清晰界定在应急响应场景中尤为关键。

精度说明：
本数据集与新南威尔士州基础空间数据框架的多个主题（包括交通、影像、定位、水体及土地覆盖）保持空间位置关联与坐标对齐。本数据集通过数字化采集所得，所用地籍测绘数据的比例尺与精度范围涵盖1:500至1:250000，符合澳大利亚国家测绘委员会1975年发布的《地图精度标准》。因此，90%的明确点位的要素位置在对应比例尺下的误差不超过0.5毫米：即1:500比例尺对应0.25米，1:2000比例尺对应1米，1:4000比例尺对应2米，1:25000比例尺对应12.5米，1:50000比例尺对应25米，1:100000比例尺对应50米。目前，本数据集的空间位置与精度升级工作正在持续推进中。
