Turning Data into Action. An R Package for the Wildfire Resilience Index

Objective: The Wildfire Resilience Index (WRI) measures and communicates social and ecological dimensions of wildfire resilience, giving resource managers, decision makers, and community leaders a holistic view of local strengths and vulnerabilities. Behind the index are nearly 100 geospatial data layers at 90-meter resolution—an incredibly rich dataset that is too large and complex for most users to simply download and explore. The challenge is making these data accessible and usable for researchers and practitioners. By developing an R package, we can deliver streamlined access to WRI scores and underlying domain data, driving rapid adoption and real-world application in wildfire resilience science, planning, and policy.
