According to the Hydrogen Pathway Explorer (HyPE) model, the global supply of green hydrogen is forecast to drastically increase from 2030 to 2050. Green hydrogen that is produced from solar energy is expected to have the highest supply, at 373 million metric tons in 2050. In comparison, the supply of green hydrogen from wind power is forecast to stand at 133 metric tons in 2050, while blue hydrogen, which is produced from natural gas and supported by carbon capture and storage, is expected to have a supply volume of 92 metric tons in 2050, after having decreased from its peak in 2040.
