Intake of a high-fat diet (HFD) can lead to gut microbiota dysbiosis, and dysbiosis can provoke chronic intestinal inflammation and contribute to colitis-associated colorectal cancer (CRC). We and others have previously demonstrated that HFD results in sex-dependent phenotypes which can, in part, be contributed to sex hormones, including estrogen. Here we define the microbial composition under control diet and explore whether HFD (13 weeks), sex, and estrogenic ligands (estradiol and ERβ-selective DPN, 3 weeks) impact the microbiome.
