A dynamic in vitro piglet model mimicking ileum and colon microbiota during the weaning process

The study aimed to develop a baby-SPIME (baby Simulator of Pig Intestinal Microbial Ecosystem), a piglet model mimicking the dietary weaning transition from milk to solid feed. Both ileum and colon reactors were inoculated with faecal matter of a suckling healthy piglet. Four different runs were performed to study its metabolic and microbial activities. Short-chain fatty acid production and microbiota composition were analysed and discussed in an original article.
