Lionfish preying upon undescribed speciesDuring a submersible dive off the coast of Curacao in 2015, researchers from the Smithsonian Deep Reef Observation Project (DROP) observed an invasive lionfish preying on an undescribed species of deep-reef fish. The species is a member of the family Gobiidae (gobies), and the genus Palatogobius. It occurs in large schools on deep reefs at depths of 88-200 m. It is currently being formally described in a scientific journal by the Smithsonian team. This species is one of many new species recently discovered through exploratory submersible diving in the Caribbean.Lionfish_preying_upon_undescribed_species_full_I.mp4
