Hypoxia adaptation is critical for the survival of aerobic fungal pathogen C. neoformans under low oxygen conditions, such as i the cryptococcoma during infection. Understanding the strategy that the pathogen uses to adapt to hypoxia would provide novel insights to combat cryptococcal infection. Here, we analyzed the transcriptional profiles of C. neoformans under hypoxia and normoxia and demostrated that the transcriptional changes of metabolic genes were tightly related to hypoxia adaptation. We also identified a PAS domain protein Pas2 regulates the hypoxia-induced transcriptional changes of metaboic genes.
