A high-resolution gridded dataset of water footprints for China's major food crops from 2001 to 2020

This dataset integrates multi-source remote sensing products with high-resolution crop distribution and phenological datasets within a comprehensive water footprint accounting framework. Using this integrated framework, we developed ChinaCropWF, a nationwide dataset with a spatial resolution of 10 km and a daily temporal resolution, covering the period from 2001 to 2020. ChinaCropWF quantifies both blue and green water footprints for China’s five major crops. By explicitly representing spatial heterogeneity in crop water consumption and water-use efficiency, ChinaCropWF supports adaptive irrigation, regional water management, and food–water nexus assessments.
