Utilization of next-generation sequence analysis to characterize the microbiota of broiler chicken cecal digesta with or without a cecal microbiota transplant. This work determined that a cecal microbiota transplant from a healthy adult broiler chicken into 1-day old broiler chickens established a consistent, highly diverse cecal microbiota by day 10 post-hatch. The effect of the AGP Virginiamycin and an AGP-alternative candidate, CSA-44, was also evaluated for their effect on the structure of the cecal metabolome.
