The study on the election for the House of Representatives in Berlin 2021 was conducted by the Forschungsgruppe Wahlen. During the survey period 06.02.2023 to 09.02.2023, 1590 eligible voters in Berlin were interviewed by telephone (CATI) on the following topics: Political opinion: Parties. Top candidates. Problems and competences. Electoral decision in the context of candidate preference and party competence. The respondents were selected by a multi-stage random sample.<br>Most important political issues in Berlin; intention to vote in the election to the Berlin House of Representatives; preference for postal voting; party preference (first vote, second vote); certainty of own voting decision; importance of federal politics for own voting decision in the election to the Berlin House of Representatives; interest in the election to the Berlin House of Representatives; voting behavior in the last election to the Berlin House of Representatives; coalition preference; attitude towards different coalition constellations: Senate of SPD, Greens and Left Party led by the SPD, Split A: Senate of SPD and Greens and FDP led by the SPD, of SPD, CDU and FDP led by the SPD, of CDU, SPD and FDP led by the CDU, of CDU, Greens and FDP led by the CDU (end of Split A), Split B: Senate consisting of SPD and Greens led by the SPD, SPD and CDU led by the SPD, and CDU and SPD led by the CDU (end of split B); Sympathy scalometer for selected parties at federal and state level (SPD, CDU, Greens, FDP, Left and AfD); Satisfaction scalometer on the performance of the SPD, Greens and Left Party Senate, the respective performance of the SPD, Greens and Left Party in the Senate, the performance of the CDU, AfD and FDP in opposition in the House of Representatives and the performance of the federal government; Sympathy scalometer for selected leading politicians at state level (Franziska Giffey, Robert Habeck, Bettina Jarasch, Klaus Lederer, Christian Lindner, Friedrich Merz, Olaf Scholz and Kai Wegner); party sympathy; interest in politics; preference for Franziska Giffey, Kai Wegner or Bettina Jarasch as Governing Mayor in Berlin; comparison of the credibility, likeability, expertise and leadership strength of Franziska Giffey, Kai Wegner and Bettina Jarasch; preference for Franziska Giffey or Kai Wegner as governing mayor in Berlin; assessment of the current economic situation in Berlin and own economic situation; expected own economic situation in one year; split A: most competent party to solve the economic problems in the country and on the housing market, on the issue of refugees and asylum as well as in climate policy (end of split A), Split B: most competent party in transport policy and with regard to social justice; fear of crime; most competent party in fighting crime and in school and education policy (end of split B); future viability of the state and most competent party in solving future problems in the state of Berlin; assessment of the work of the Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey; assessment of the work of the Senate made up of the SPD, Greens and Left Party; CDU in government would do a better vs. worse or there would be no big difference; agreement with statements on various issues in Berlin: Split A: The fact that there are so many unresolved problems in Berlin is mainly due to the Senate made up of the SPD, Greens and Left Party; the Ukraine crisis and the high prices for food and energy are issues that benefit the AfD in this election (end of split A); split B: Of all possible governments, a Senate of SPD, Greens and Left Party is still best for Berlin; the Senate of SPD, Greens and Left Party has looked the other way for far too long when it comes to riots and rioting in Berlin (end of Split B); opinion on more restrictions on car traffic in Berlin in favor of cyclists and pedestrians; assessment of the situation on the Berlin housing market by the policies of the Senate of SPD, Greens and Left Party; expropriation of large housing companies as a suitable means of solving the problems on the Berlin housing market; complete repeat of the last election to the House of Representatives in 2021 after irregularities is correct; it is time for other parties to come into government in the state of Berlin; assessment of the extent of military support for Ukraine by the federal government. Demography: age (classified); sex; education: school-leaving qualification or aspired school-leaving qualification; university degree; occupation; job security; professional position; management position; employment in the public sector; household size; number of people in household aged 18 and over; trade union member in household; religious denomination; party affiliation; party identification; district of residence after amalgamation; district of residence (east, west); eligibility to vote in the election to the Berlin House of Representatives. Additionally coded were: ID; weighting factor.
