Black gram [Vigna mungo (L)] seeds are rich source of digestible protein and dietary fibres, both for human and animal consumption. However, the quality and quantity of the Vigna seeds are severely affected by bruchid beetle during storage. So far, only a few mild tolerant genotypes of black gram have been identified. In the present investigation, whole transcriptome analysis was performed to capture a larger picture of defense activities in terms of underlying defense mechanism of blackgram upon bruchid ovipositioning after 7 days of oviposition. Two blackgram cultivars, one mild tolerant (IC-8219) and one susceptible (T-9) were used for the study.
