Initial thickness of Westfal C

The width map for the level Westfal C (System: Carbon; Subsystem: Upper carbon/siles; before about 325-290 Ma) shows the assumed thickness of the Westfal C at the time of deposit. The information is available for the project area in the area of the central German North Sea (Geotectonic Atlas, Baldschuhn et al., 2001). The map was created for use in the input model of the dynamic 3D model of the central German North Sea. The aim of the modelling is the reconstruction of the sinking, temperature and maturation history of carbonated petroleum nut rocks, which can be used as a basis for estimating the potential of KW. The basis of this map is the map “initial width Westphal” from Krull (2005), which has been digitised, geo-referenced and smoothed for use. At individual points, a review of the data could be carried out via the depth or vigilance data in drill reports. In addition, the map was compared with the current thickness of carbon sediments assumed in the KW model and, if necessary, corrected. Data source: KRULL, P.
