A virtual private network itself provides a private connection between the user's device and the endpoint. It does this by utilizing a VPN protocol that masks the user's traffic by encrypting it. VPNs are used both in a private and professional context, for example to either access content that is not accessible in a specific location or isolating an organizations critical information technology (IT) services from the internet.
