Macrophage ferroportin serves as a therapeutic target against bacteria-induced acute lung injury by promoting barrier restoration

Acute respiratory distress syndrome is a common lung disorder with severe inflammatory damage to the alveolar-capillary barrier. Early experimental studies have indicated that macrophage ferroportin (FPN), the sole known cellular iron exporter, involved in the protection against bacteria-induced lung injury via the interaction with its ligand hepcidin. Yet, the underlying mechanisms still remain elusive.To define the exact role of macrophage FPN in lung injury induced by bacteria particularly pulmonary barrier function.
