POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS OF FEATURE FILL AND STRATIGRAPHIC SAMPLES FROM SITE 33DL2228, DELAWARE COUNTY, OHIO.

Site 33DL228 is a multi-component (prehistoric and historical) site located in Delaware County, Ohio. The site was originally documented during Phase I survey of a pipeline corridor. Located on a terrace west of the Scioto River, it flanks an unnamed intermittent stream and is situated within an agricultural field used to grow alfalfa, corn, and soybeans. The goal of the pollen and phytolith analysis is to establish a picture of the paleoenvironment, especially with regard to forest clearing and large-scale cultivation, as well as to gain a better understanding of plant subsistence.
