This dataset was derived from morphology control experiments on basic magnesium sulfate whiskers (MOSw). A ternary additive mixture design was employed, with sodium stearate, sodium tartrate, and sodium citrate used as the mixture components. Under the condition of a constant total carboxyl molar amount, an Extreme Vertices Mixture Design was generated using Minitab 20 software, resulting in 13 experimental formulations. Each sample was prepared under identical hydrothermal reaction conditions except for the additive ratios. After reaction, the products were cooled, washed, filtered, and dried to obtain the corresponding whisker samples.During the experiment, 1.2 mol·L-1 MgSO4 solution and 1.2 mol·L-1 NaOH solution were first prepared, with the Mg2+/OH- molar ratio controlled at 0.8. The three additives were added according to the mixture design proportions. Sodium tartrate was converted on the basis of two carboxyl groups per molecule, and sodium citrate on the basis of three carboxyl groups per molecule, so as to maintain a constant total carboxyl molar amount of 0.3 μmol across different systems. Hydrothermal reaction was then carried out to obtain MOSw samples under different formulation conditions.For data processing, the obtained samples were first subjected to microscopic morphology observation, and the average whisker length and average diameter were measured. Based on the original observation data, the aspect ratio was then calculated. Subsequently, the experimental design variables and response variables were entered into Minitab 20 for mixture regression modeling and analysis of variance, yielding statistical parameters for the length and diameter models, including the standard deviation (S), coefficient of determination (R2), model significance (P value), and the significance of related terms.The equipment and tools used included:Reaction and sample preparation equipment: magnetic stirrer, hydrothermal reaction apparatus, filtration equipment, and drying equipment;Morphology characterization equipment: optical microscope / scanning electron microscope (SEM);Data processing software: Minitab 20.
