Enhydra lutris nereis isolate:Gidget Genome sequencing and assembly

We have sequenced, assembled and annotated the de novo genome of a southern sea otter (Enhydra lutris nereis) from the California population. Sea otters represent one of the most recent marine mammal radiations, making them an intriguing case for the study of recent and rapid positive selection. They have also experienced an extreme recent population bottleneck due to the fur trade, which may have had impacted genetic diversity and genetic load of deleterious variation.
