VPRS 14005 Teachers Requesting Permission to Perform Private Work

The Teachers Requesting Permission to Engage in Private Work books include lists of teachers who request, both successfully and unsuccessfully, the Education Department's permission to engage in private work. These volumes were created to document the responses to teachers' requests, and the nature of their proposed work, in the period 1885 - 1984.There are several features unique to Volume 1. It separates successful and unsuccessful applicants to the front and back respectively (later volumes list all the applicants together, with the result of their request in the remarks column). The back of the volume contains lists of teachers sorted by occupation, 1885 - 1935. It is also divided into three sections, in accordance with various changes over the period to the Public Service Act, as it affected teachers performing private work. The relevant sections of each Public Service Act have been inserted into the volume at the point where they take effect.Information captured varies from volume to volume but is largely the same.
