Anodic microorganisms are the core engine of the MFC-based biosensor for detection of VFAs in the AD process, as they can oxidize VFAs and transfer electrons to anode electrode. For a better understanding of the role of microorganisms, the microbial community in the anodic biofilm of the biosensor was analyzed by using the 16S rRNA sequencing approach.
