Flower-leaf sequences and their ecological predictors for American plum and North American cherry species

This dataset contains observations of flowering and vegetative phenology derived from herbarium specimens for members of the American Plums cade (Prunus species in the section Prunocerasus) and estimates of the order of flower-leaf sequences for all Prunus species of North American derived from verbal descriptions in guidebooks. The purpose of this study was to characterize differences in flower leaf sequences among species and to evaluate whether those differences correspond to biological/ecological traits representing two major hypotheses regarding the evolution of flower-leaf sequence patterns in these clades.
