Abundance, composition and characteristics of plastic bottles and caps on Pacific Latin American beaches and human settlements, registered by the Científicos de la Basura citizen science program

Data set generated by means of citizen science during an international sampling of beverage plastic bottles and caps, conducted in 2023 on beaches and in human settlements along the Pacific coast of Latin America. The set contains data about the abundance of bottles and caps, as well as about the information printed on these items in their different sections (cap, bottle neck, bottle body, and label), which provides insight into their origin. The data set additionally contains information about the sampling sites, regarding waste management, commercial activity, public spaces and drainage systems, among other aspects.
