The modal split is a statistical calculation that describes how traffic is distributed between different means of transport (on foot, by bike, by public transport, or on motorised individual transport). A distinction is made between Total transport (consisting of inland and source/destination traffic as well as transit and tangential transport. In the study mobility in cities, only the total traffic of the population of Constance was examined, i.e. no commuters, no visitors, no through traffic), Inland transport (paths that have source and destination within the city) and source/destination (i.e. routes that have either their destination or source within the city). The data is expected to be collected every 5 years. The first survey from 1997 was carried out by Socialdata, as well as the second survey from 2007. In 2018, the Technical University of Dresden collected the data. More information about the Split Modal and Urban Traffic Planning can be found here.
