Full length cDNA sequencing is essential for understanding gene function. It helps in defining the coding regions and the intron-exon boundry in the gene. About 30,000 cDNA clones from O. sativa ssp. japonicus have been sequenced, mapped and annotated, so far, by the Rice Full-Length cDNA Consortium in Japan. Members of the consortium are National Institute of Agrobiological Sciences, Foundation of Advancement of International Science Genome Sequencing and Analysis, and RIKEN.
