Correspondence should be addressed to Feng Feng; feng-feng64@263.net and Lizhen Liu; 707121532@qq.com In this article, a simple green approach has been developed to synthesis highly fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) by simply mixing L-aspartic acid and urea using the microwave heating method. The synthesized CDs emits a strong fluorescence with a quantum yield of 16%. In addition, the obtained CDs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, Ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy, Fourier transform infared spectroscopy and X–ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results indicate that the as-prepared CDs exhibit good spherical shape, excellent dispersion of particles with an average size of about 5.0 nm, well water solubility and high fluorescence stability. Furthermore, under optimum conditions, the CDs exhibit good fluorescence response towards isorhamnetin (ISOR) in a concentration range of 0.21–180 nM with a detection limit of 1.32 nM. The proposed method has been successfully applied to detect ISOR in ginkgo biloba tablets medicines (tablet form) with a recovery of 97.3% – 108.8%.
