Supporting data for “Legitimating Alternative Forms of Traditional Arts: The Case of Hong Kong’s Cantonese Opera (Xiqu) Sector ”

This database comprises the Ph.D. thesis entitled “Legitimating Alternative Forms of Traditional Arts: The Case of Hong Kong’s Cantonese Opera (Xiqu) Sector". This study aims to investigate the artistic legitimization process of a new form of traditional art, with the case of the revival of nouvelle Cantonese opera in Hong Kong since the late 2000s. The database contains compiled Cantonese opera program data from 2003 to 2019, a dataset of historical events that are relevant to the development of Cantonese opera in Hong Kong since the 1920s, and the interviews of the study.
