VPRS 16828 Example Patient Case Histories

This series comprises of example patient case histories bound into three volumes and grouped according to diagnostic code. The patient number is annotated in red. The system pre-dates the Unit Record (UR) numbering system and was in use from 1921 until 1938. RCH HIS (Medical Records) has two code books - one arranged alphabetically and one arranged numerically. There is a Register No. on each patient case which could be compared with that in the relevant admission registers. Pathology result slips and thermic charts have been bound in with each case.A discrete record for the patient named baby Robyn Dent is an example of what was called 'a bag' and is the only RCH example extant of this type of record. The 'bag' system appears to have been used from the late 1930s and they were later converted to unique UR numbers. (A 'bag' appears to be a complete patient file). Baby Dent was admitted in 1951.Prior to transfer to Public Record Office Victoria, the records in this series were maintained as part of the Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) Archives. They were part of RCH accession number 1996/005.
