Code and data for "ECOMIP: The EarthCARE-ORCESTRA Model Intercomparison Project"

Description This Zenodo repository contains the code and compact datasets required to reproduce the key figures presented in the manuscript: ECOMIP: The EarthCARE-ORCESTRA Model Intercomparison Project The archive includes Python scripts, compact NetCDF datasets, and orbit-extracted model outputs used to generate the figures comparing EarthCARE observations with the NICAM, ICON, and IFS simulations. The package contains standardized datasets for radar reflectivity, Doppler velocity, ice water content (IWC), liquid water content (LWC), and vertical air velocity, together with Python plotting scripts that reproduce the published figures. The archive reproduces the following figures in the manuscript: Figure 7: Vertical cross sections of radar reflectivity from (a) EarthCARE, (b) NICAM, (c) ICON, and (d) IFS. Figure 8: Vertical cross sections of Doppler velocity (positive upward) from (a) EarthCARE, (b) NICAM, (c) ICON, and (d) IFS. Figure 11: Vertical cross sections of vertical air velocity over the latitude range 5°N–15°N from (a) EarthCARE, (b) NICAM, (c) ICON, and (d) IFS. Figure 12: Mean vertical profiles of IWC, LWC, and vertical air velocity derived from JAXA EarthCARE retrievals, NICAM, ICON, and IFS. The repository includes: Python scripts used to generate all figures listed above. Compact NetCDF datasets containing the variables required for figure reproduction. Orbit-extracted NICAM and ICON EASE datasets used in the EarthCARE overpass analysis. Standardized datasets for EarthCARE retrievals and IFS outputs used to reproduce the published figures. The original EarthCARE Level-2 products are publicly available through the official EarthCARE data archives and are therefore not redistributed in this repository. Users should obtain the original satellite observations from the official EarthCARE data repositories. The complete original NICAM, ICON, and IFS model outputs are substantially larger than the datasets required for figure reproduction. Therefore, only compact, orbit-extracted datasets and processed figure-reproduction datasets are included in this repository. Running the provided Python scripts reproduces Figures 7, 8, 10, 11, and 12 of the manuscript. Version: 1.0
