资源简介:
This collection comprises images and a photo catalogue from a Level 2 historic building recording survey at Stocksbridge Weir, Deepcar, Sheffield. This work was undertaken by Ecus Ltd. in October 2023. Stocksbridge Weir is a good example of a 19th century weir built as part of a by-pass water management system created to power the two waterwheels used by the Wharncliffe Fire Clay Works. It was built between 1855 and 1858 and consisted of two courses of sandstone ashlar blocks, built directly onto the bedrock forming the bottom of the river. At some point between 1931 and 1959, a footbridge was constructed close to the Weir and a new retaining structure was built. The original abutment and wingwalls at this end of the Weir were replaced.
