In vitro biotransformation of olive polyphenols was investigated, including biotransformation by human colon bacteria. Feacal donor samples from 2 age groups (20-30 years old and ≥ 65 years old) were sequenced for their bacterial composition with 16S rRNA V1-V9 gene sequencing. Samples taken during colon incubation were sequenced through 16S rRNA Illumina sequencing of hypervariable region V4 for assessment of bacterial composition, alpha, and beta diversity.
