The study was performed in the Long Term Social-Ecological Research “Zone Atelier Plaine &amp; Val de Sèvre” (LTSER ZA-PVS) in central western France, 46°23’N-0°41’W. Individual honey bees were monitored using RFID tags (mic3® - TAG 64 bit RO, iID2000, 13.56 MHz system, 1.0 mm × 1.6 mm × 0.5 mm; Microsensys GmbH, Erfurt, Germany) and ad-hoc readers (iID2000, 2k6 HEAD; Microsensys GmbH, Erfurt, Germany) placed at the entrance of the hives. During the entire experiment, a total of 2,100 newly emerged sister workers (one day-old) were collected from a single honey bee colony at the INRAE Entomology experimental unit livestock apiary, and processed as part of six successive cohorts evenly staggered from April to September of 2011. Each honey bee was equipped with a unique RFID tag, and released in cohorts of 75-150 individuals into the three experimental colonies.<br>The time-activity budgets were recorded using two adjacent rows of five contiguous RFID readers placed at the entrance of the hives (i.e. the common 10-frame Dadant hive). We calculated the age of first exit-and-entrance sequence (AFE, in days), the lifespan (i.e. the age at last exit-and-entrance sequence) and AOF for each bees using the aof package developed in R (Requier &amp; Rebaudo, 2020), which computes AOF as a behavioural change in the time-activity budget. This behavioural change is derived from three daily activities, i) the number of exit-and-entrance sequence per day, ii) the duration of these sequences, and iii) the hour of the day they were performed.
