EXAMINATION OF BULK SOIL FOR RADIOCARBON DATABLE MATERIAL FROM ALONG THE LOWER PECOS RIVER, NEW MEXICO

A total of five bulk soil samples from along the Lower Pecos River near Carlsbad, New Mexico, were floated to recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon analysis. These samples were collected as part of the paleoflood frequency analyses for Brantley and Avalon Dams. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially radiocarbon datable material was separated.本研究共采集美国新墨西哥州卡尔斯巴德附近佩科斯河下游沿岸的混合土壤样品（bulk soil samples）共5件，通过浮选法回收适用于放射性碳分析（radiocarbon analysis）的有机碎屑。该批样品的采集是布兰特利大坝与阿瓦隆大坝古洪水频率分析（paleoflood frequency analyses）项目的组成部分。研究人员对样品中的植物组分与碎屑炭进行了鉴定，并分离出了具备放射性碳测年潜力的待测物质。
