We hypothesize that AOA and AOB possess different capacities of CO2 fixation and N2O production associated with ammonia oxidation activity. Therefore, soil microcosms were established to mimick nitrification process and N2O emission from urine patches in the field by urea addition and water amendment. 13CO2-based stable isotope probing (SIP) was employed to quantify the chemoauotrophic carbon fixation, and to elucidate population dynamics of AOA and AOB communities during N2O emission in a nitrifying pasture soil.
