BK Polyomavirus Sequencing

BK polyomavirus (BKPyV) leads to hemorrhagic cystitis and BKPyV-associated nephropathy in hematopoietic cell transplant recipients and renal transplant recipients, respectively. BKPyV has the highest mutation rate among DNA viruses and viral diversity has been shown to impact replication rates, cell tropism, and immune response. The goal of this project is to sequence patient sample-derived BKPyV strains to determine the role played by viral genetic diversity in disease manifestation and pathogenesis.
