This project provides Jupyter notebooks for computing seismic earth pressures acting on lateral earth retention systems using a Winkler-based elastic solution. The solutions are for shear waves propagating vertically through continuously inhomogeneous elastic soil acting against flexible walls constrained by elastic rotational and translational springs at the top and bottom. There are two different approaches represented in these notebooks. The frequency domain method requires a ground surface motion to be input along with soil and wall properties. Output includes time series representing shear and bending moment at the top and bottom of the wall as well as snapshots of wall and soil displacement, seismic earth pressure, shear, and bending moment at the time that the peak bending moment is predicted. The single frequency solution represents the ground motion using a surface displacement amplitude and mean frequency rather than a full time series, and is better suited to design applications where a ground motion time series is often not available. Output includes distributions of soil and wall displacement, seismic earth pressure, shear, and bending moment.
