Emergence 0: The Necessity of the Primitives

This paper proves that the eight primitives of the canvas model are not a choice—they are a necessity. Starting from the minimal requirements for any universe capable of supporting complex structure (temporal evolution, spatial extension, finite propagation speed, stable superposition, localized structures, stability, and determinism), we prove that the wave equation is the unique fundamental law satisfying all these conditions. From the wave equation, the four dynamic primitives emerge as the exhaustive classification of all possible terms in the general solution. The four property primitives emerge as the necessary constraints for a universe to have specific, stable properties. No additional primitives are possible. None are redundant. The canvas model is not a candidate theory of everything—it is the unique viable framework for any universe that can contain observers. The paper concludes with the self-justifying principle: if there were nothing, there would be no one to ask the question. The existence of the question proves the existence of the canvas.
