Age-related neuroinflammation is an important cause of a variety of neurodegenerative diseases, cognitive dysfunction, and depression. Since the treatment of these diseases in the elderly is difficult, it is desirable to establish safer and more efficient treatment strategies and to develop alternative therapies. Here, RNA-sequencing was applied to characterize the effects of the Japanese traditional medicine (Kampo formulas) using SAMP8 mice, which show neuroinflammation, memory impairment and depressive like behavior along with aging.
