The Healthy Computing Questionnaire for Children is a 56 item outcome measure that was developed, trialled and validated with a sample of 440 primary school students aged 9-11 years. It contains three subscales of knowledge, attitudes and behaviour. It is appropriate to use at a single point in time to assess children’s knowledge, attitudes and behaviour related to healthy use of computer technology, and also to evaluate changes over time.
A panel of four experts who held advanced qualifications and extensive work or research experience in the fields of education, ergonomics, occupational therapy and health promotion was consulted to confirm the content validity of the measure. A sample of 13 school children were used to pilot a preliminary version of the measure and provide feedback on length, clarity and readability of the items. Three hundred and sixty four school children participating in the study completed the final version of the HCQC and their responses were used to confirm the construct validity and internal consistency of the items. Test-retest reliability (measured two weeks apart) was confirmed with a sample of 63 school children.
