Mineral characterisation is essential in the mining industry for effective resource management. However, existing sensing technologies are often expensive, bulky, and performance-limited. This research explored chipless radio frequency identification (RFID) technology as a cost-effective, compact, and efficient alternative for mineral characterisation. Innovative sensor designs were created to improve accuracy and reliability. Furthermore, a field-programmable gate array (FPGA)-based impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) reader was developed for rapid and economical signal processing. These advancements demonstrate how chipless RFID can offer a viable solution for mineral analysis, ultimately leading to more efficient and sustainable mining operations.
