Meteorological Analysis Model MESAN (HIRLAM) — historical analysis data

DESCRIPTION In this data set there are archived MESAN data up to and including the day before the withdrawal takes place. Data is available until May 2016. The MESAN analysis is then based on the more high-resolution forecast model AROME. Mesan is a meteorological analysis model that describes the current weather conditions in grid panes. Every hour of the day, a two-dimensional mapping of common weather parameters is made. Which ones vary slightly over the day. In essence, the meteorological conditions include temperature, precipitation, clouds, visibility, humidity, wind and snow. The analysis is carried out over an area covering Scandinavia, the British Isles, the northern part of the continent and the Baltic States. COORDINATES Coordinates of the area are given by the corners: southwest 48.5N, 10.5 W Northwest 75.1N, 11.5 W northeast 63.3N, 51.6E southeast 42.4N, 22.9E The grid windows are 11*11 km. USE Mesan data is used at SMHI to make weather maps that the meteorologist has as a basis for forecasting operations. In the absence of observations, analysed values may sometimes replace them. Mesan data is also used as input to other models, e.g. to calculate run-off in our watercourses or to map the risk of fires in forests and land. FORMAT Data is delivered in GRIB format.
