The Research Ethics Governance dataset is a cross-sectional, global dataset, based on over 800 source documents and coded between January and July 2020. The dataset relies on publicly available information collected via desk-based online searches. For a full list of sources, see "REG_-_Annex_D-References_f".
For an elaboration of the data collection methods, see document "REG_-_Annex A-Data_Collection_and_Language_f".
The dataset includes 17 original variables describing national-level regulations for research ethics in 197 countries. For a description of the variables, see "REG_-_Annex_B-Codebook_f"
Several cases were difficult to code. For insight on coding decisions, see "REG_-_Annex_C-Difficult-cases_f"
